No Chibuku For Giants Dynamos And Highlanders
Premier Soccer League giants Dynamos and Highlanders’ Chibuku Super Cup Jinx continued as both fell in the first round to Bulawayo City and Harare City respectively.
Dynamos' quest for a maiden Chibuku Super Cup title ended in agony once again after falling 2-1 to a supercharged Bulawayo City at Rufaro stadium.
Dembare has failed to win the cup since its return in 2014 and this is the second time that they have bowed out at the first hurdle after being bundled out by Black Rhinos in 2014.
Christian Epoupa playing before the home fans for the first time after the controversy that surrounded him following a sent off for violent conduct against Highlanders two weeks ago, put Dynamos in the lead just after the quarter hour mark finishing off a rebound from a Masimba Mambare shot that was parried back into play by Bulawayo City goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda.
Despite being in the lead Dynamos didn't do anything to warrant a cushioning and seemed comfortable.
City came back the better side in the second half with Rainsome Pavari, Innocent Kutsanzira, Sipho Ndlovu and Ishmael Wadi playing a game of their lives.
They soon leveled matters when Wadi went on a fine run on the left beating a number of Dynamos defenders but fluffed as he was about to pull the trigger but a poor clearance from Lincoln Zvasiya fell on Ndlovu who slotted into an empty net as a jittery Tonderai Mateyaunga had needlessly came off his line.
AmaKhosi continued dictating the pace and were denied what looked like a clear penalty when Ndlovu was hacked down inside the box after weaving past a number of defenders but referee Norman Matemera adjudged that it was outside the box. Poetic justice was done as Zephaniah Ngodzo sent in a curling shot past Mateyaunga fifteen minutes from time.
The visitors could have increased the lead as they had more possession but chose to knock the ball around and maintain their lead.
In Zvishavane, Bulawayo giants Highlanders became the latest big casualty of the Chibuku Super Cup after they were knocked out by Harare city at Mandava on Sunday.
Two blunders by the Bosso defense gifted City the two goals as William Manondo and Grey Kufandada capitalised in the first half.
Sunshine Boys captain Tendai Ssamanja scored an own goal.
