Nhongo Eyes Premiership Return

Former Caps United defender Asani Nhongo is eyeing Premiership return in July after a year on the sidelines due to family problems.

Nhongo who made a name while playing at the now defunct Monomotapa before moving to Caps United has been inactive for a year after returning home in Shurugwi to solve some family problems following the expiry of his contract at Makepekepe.

Nhongo is now turning out for Shurugwi based Central Region outfit Nitchrut and said a number of premiership clubs have shown interest in him and will be making a decision soon.

“I had some personal problems which I wanted to solve after leaving Caps United, so had to take a sabbatical the whole of last year. I decided to play in division one for the first half of the year so that I regain match fitness. But there are a number of premiership clubs who have shown interest in me and I will be returning to top flight stage soon," said Nhongo.

The former Warriors defender also bemoaned the poor standards in the region saying, teams should do more to have uplift the level of competition.

"The standards in the league are still very low compared to other leagues like the Northern Region. The powers that be must do a lot in raising the game otherwise players from the region will move to join teams in other regions. Also teams that gain promotion into premiership won’t last the mile."
