Nhete Undergoing Trials In Tanzania

Mutare City goalkeeper Philip Nhete has joined the trek to the increasingly fashionable Tanzanian top flight league, the Ligi Kuu Bara, for trials with an unnamed club.

Nhete, who made his name at Dynamos before moving to Shooting Stars and later to Botswana, left the country on Sunday for a weeklong trial stint.

Mutare City coach Taku Shariwa confirmed the development.

“Philip (Nhete) left the country for Tanzania but I can't say to which club,” said Shariwa.

“Chances are high that he is going to sign and that’s why we brought in Victor Twaliki as his replacement. We wish him well in his endeavors.”

Traditionally, most Zimbabwean players have moved to the South African Absa Premiership but the trend could be changing as the Tanzanian league has begun to attract a number of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League players.

The former FC Platinum duo of Thabani Kamusoko Donald Ngoma were the pioneers of the new phenomenon when they joined Ligi Kuu Bara reigning champions Young Africans at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season.

Zambian import Obrey Chirwa then followed, so did Caps United utility player Method Mwanjali who is also now at Yanga.

Highlanders’ hotshot winger Bruce Kangwa is close to signing for Azam FC while Caps United forward Brian Abbas Amidu is also trying his luck with the same club.

Simba Stars have former Dynamos skipper Justice Majabvi on their books.

The Tanzania 2016/17 season starts in August in line with the European league.
