Ngezi Platinum Stars Impress Egyptian Coach

EGYPTIAN coach and former Highlanders gaffer Mohammed Fathy has been impressed by Ngezi Platinum Stars ahead of the Zimbabwean team’s CAF Confederations Cup debut next weekend.

Fathy is now a technical director at Power Dynamos of Zambia who beat Tonderai Ndiraya’s Ngezi 1-0 at Nkoloma Stadium on Friday.

Ngezi are preparing for next Saturday’s first leg of the preliminary round away to Pamplemousses SC of Mauritius.

Their never say die spirit and compactness are some of Ngezi’s qualities that charmed Fathy who now believes the Mhondoro based side will progress in the CAF Confederations Cup.

“They are a very good team and we are lucky that we survived. I am very sure they will progress,” the Egyptian coach was quoted as saying after the match.

“They have a never-say-die spirit,” he added.

Ngezi Platinum Stars shocked highly fancied FC Platinum in last season’s Chibuku Super Cup and will represent Zimbabwe in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup.

They play Pamplemousses SC of Mauritius in Belle Vue Maurel next Saturday in a first leg encounter of the preliminary round of the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup.

Back to Zambia, Ngezi fell to a 19th minute goal from Mbaka Pikoyi but Power Dynamos were lucky to emerge victors as the Zimbabwean side threw everything at the Zambians in search of an equalizer.

According to a match report in The Herald, former Dynamos striker Kelvin Bulaji could have found the leveler but his header missed the target by a whisker with Power keeper Monga Ndala a well beaten man.
