Ngezi Back On Top

NGEZI Platinum are back on top of the Castle Lager Premiership table after edging Harare City 1-0 at Morris Depot on Sunday.

Qadr Amini scored from the spot after Donald Teguru had been brought down in the box.

ZPC Kariba had temporarily gone top on Saturday after their 2-0 win over Tsholotsho.

Ngezi Platinum are now on 16 points, a point better than second-placed ZPC Kariba.

Black Rhinos, who are on 14 points after their 1-0 win over Bulawayo City on Saturday, are third. How Mine, with an inferior goal difference than that of Rhinos, are fourth with the same number of points.

The abandonment of the battle of Zimbabwe at Barbourfields on Sunday keeps Highlanders on 13 points.

The match was abandoned due to crowd trouble after Dynamos had scored a controversial equaliser through Ntouba Epoupa. Rahman Kutsanzira had given Bosso the lead.

While DeMbare and Bosso were cancelling each other, Tonderai Ndiraya was basking in glory and taking full advantage.

“This is our second time winning away from home. I think my boys played well. We dominated in the first half but it was a different game in the second half. Harare City were determined. The good thing is that my boys managed to stand their ground in terms of defending,” Ndiraya said.

Harare City coach Madzivanyika said: “It won’t dampen our spirits. I think my players are professional and they have tasted both victory and defeat at the highest level. It’s true we didn’t win and that’s a big upset for us, we are disappointed but the season is still in its infancy.”

In other matches played on Sunday, Hwange played a goalless draw at the Colliery against Triangle. Shabanie Mine were also held at home 0-0 by Chapungu.
