Ndiraya Brings Joy To Mhondoro

DYNAMOS did not believe in him.

He spent years on apprentice under record breaking Kallisto Pasuwa, guided DeMbare to the Chibuku Super Cup final and a second place finish in the 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race.

Still, in him the powers that be did not trust.

Tonderai Ndiraya was vomited from the system after the DeMbare hierarchy had fallen in love with a Portuguese coach called Paolo Jorge Silva.

He disappeared from the public domain until July when a chance to return to the limelight presented itself in the form of Ngezi Platinum.

Poor results under Clifton Kadurira forced the Ngezi Platinum executive to wield the axe.

Kadurira was fired and Ndiraya took over on June 16.

“I am excited, I look forward to a lot of positives,” Ndiraya said in his first press interview as Ngezi Platinum coach.

Positive,  was the route Ngezi Platinum took under the guidance of a cool and level headed Ndiraya.

An eight match unbeaten run ensued and  Ngezi Platinum rose from the relegation zone into a genuine top eight contender.

And Ndiraya was duly named Coach of the Month for July.

“From the onset we said we wanted to take it step by step and reach the Promised Land, we have gone past another stage and we now look forward to our next opponent,” Ndiraya said after his team had thumped Tsholotsho 4-1 at the Baobab to reach the Chibuku Super Cup semi final.

The fairytale continued and Highlanders soon became the next victim of an unbelievable Ngezi.

Bosso were beaten 1-0 in their own backyard and a historic Chibuku Super Cup final appearance, in only their debut top flight season, was sealed by Ndiraya.

At the same time, Dynamos, the team that discarded him were not only bowing out of the country’s premier knockout tournament but were also being blown away from the league title race.

Dynamos will end the season without a trophy and Ndiraya has a chance of bagging a major one when Ngezi Platinum host FC Platinum in the Chibuku Super Cup final at the Baobab on Saturday.

Kelvin Bulaji and Wlater Mukanga, the players that DeMbare deemed excess garbage during the midseason have formed the backbone of this amazing Ngezi.

Liberty Chakoroma, who dumped the former champions during the offseason will feel vindicated as he stands on the verge of lifting a major cup.

It’s a historic day for the Mhondoro community and Ndiraya says the people cannot wait.

The clash kicks off at 2PM and is live on SuperSport 9.

SportsZone Zimbabwe will also give blow by blow live text commentary of the platinum final.

“We are ready for the battle, it is a very important cup not only for me as a coach but for the people of Mhondoro who have waited long for this day.

“It means so much to the people, players and the organization I work for,” said Ndiraya in an interview with SportsZone on Friday.

“It is no mean achievement to reach a cup final in your debut season. The boys are ready and I am sure they will deliver,” he said.

Apart from long term injury casualties Chris Mverechena, Knowledge Machona and Tichaona Mabvura, Ngezi Platinum have all the players itching to step onto the Baobab turf.

Versatile defender Byron Madzokere is suspended for the final.

Usually a sleepy remote area, Mhondoro-Ngezi will reverberate come Saturday.

Enjoy!.
