Mzinyathini Girls Win Grassroots Health And Wellness Tourney

Mzinyathini High School girls were on Saturday crowned champions of the Grassroot Soccer Health and Wellness tournament held at Mawabeni Grounds.

Mvuthu, Mawabeni and Sihlengeni were the other schools which participated in the one day event meant for Umzingwane district. The four teams played each other in a round robin fashion, with the opening match between Mawabeni and Sihlengeni High which the home team won 1-0.

Up next were Mzinyathini and Mvuthu, who drew 1-1 and the third match of the day between Mzinyathini and Mawabeni concluded 0-0.

The fourth encounter proved to be an interesting one when Sihlengeni defeated Mvuthu 2-0. Sihlengeni went on to lose 1-0 to Mawabeni. The final match of the day was played between Mawabeni and Mvuthu.

Sihlengeni forfeited their last match of the day so as to avoid travelling at night, leaving the tournament organisers with no choice but to award Mzinyathini with three points.

Mzinyathini, Mawabeni Mvuthu High each ended the day with five points, with Sihlengeni at the bottom with zero. At the end of the day, Mzinyathini won the tournament courtesy of a quiz that the organisers ran.

For being champions, Mzinyathini got a full soccer kit with 15 uniforms while the rest of the teams got a one ball each.

Former Highlanders player and team manager Netsai Moyo graced the tournament as a representative of Grassroot Soccer. Ex Mighty Warriors players, Sithandile “Siza” Khoza and Sithandekile “Mathoe” Mathobela were also present at the event.
