Mwanjali ''off the hook''
CAPS United midfielder Method Mwanjali has been cleared of an attempted murder charge after the man he stabbed during a brawl in Harare asked the court to withdraw the case.
The former Warriors skipper paid the medical bills for Tonderai Nhunzvi prompting the man to forgive him and opt for an out of court settlement.
Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa cleared Mwanjali after Nhunzvi stated in an affidavit that he had voluntarily withdrawn the charge.
Nhunzvi told the court that he was never induced in any way to withdraw the charges and prosecutor Tinashe Kanyemba-Makiya consented to the withdrawal.
However Mwanjali is still facing an assault charge stemming from the brawl on Independence Day during which fellow footballer Archieford Gutu allegedly damaged Nhunzvi’s car.
Gutu is out on bail until June 27 when he is expected to stand trial on a charge of malicious damage to property.
Mwanjali (33) allegedly stabbed Nhunzvi with a knife following an altercation in the parking lot at Long Cheng Plaza in Belvedere, Harare.
The State alleges that the two met at an intersection in the complex, where their vehicles almost collided, leading to a heated exchange of words and the stabbing.
Gutu allegedly smashed the windscreen of Nhunzvi’s vehicle during the incident.
