Mutasa guns for Tsholotsho
DYNAMOS interim head coach Lloyd Mutasa believes winning the next game against Tsholotsho could give them the spring they need to move away from the crisis the club is facing following a run of poor results.
Mutasa, who was given five games to prove himself after DeMbare parted ways with Portuguese coach Paulo Jorge Silva last week, begun his tenure on the downside and was caught in the wrath of the supporters who denounced the side and fought running battles with the police following a 1-0 defeat to FC Platinum at Rufaro last Sunday.
The Glamour Boys have had one of their worst starts ever this soccer season and the crisis last week sparked riots by disgruntled supporters who could not take it any more after the team slumped to their third loss in six starts to drop to 15th place on the log standings.
However, Mutasa believes the Harare giants have to look ahead with a positive mindset, knowing that a defeat to Tsholotsho at Barbourfields on Saturday could only stack more pressure.
“The youngsters know the position that we are and we know we need to move up. We are really looking forward to better preparations for the game against Tsholotsho.
“I think the message to the boys is clear that we know we are in an unfamiliar position as of now. But we have the arsenal, we have the belief and it’s a matter of time before we move up (the table).
“When we were growing up there was this saying that unity is strength and it’s always there for everyone to know that where there is unity, there is success.
“Just look at the hunger the boys were having in the second half against FC Platinum. Who knows? Probably that game was a step backwards so that we take the giant step forward.
“As Dynamos we will bounce back. We are the only ones who can take ourselves from this mess.
You look at how we lost that game and you look at how the boys reacted at training. They want to stand up and be counted,” said Mutasa.
DeMbare currently have five points in the bag from one win over newboys Mutare City Rovers and two draws against Triangle and Hwange. They have lost thrice against Chicken Inn, CAPS United and FC Platinum.
Their major let-down has been the failure to score goals as shown by the statistics on the log standings which reflect that they have managed only two goals in six starts.
This is a poor conversion rate by any standard and Mutasa was this week busy with the drills trying to perfect the finishing. The former DeMbare stylish midfielder, however, believes the blame should not lie squarely on the strikers as he wants his side to play as a unit.
“It’s an area that we would want to put much attention on, but not saying that we should forget the other areas.
“It’s a pity that people would want to individualise those things. We, as Dynamos, believe when we defend we defend as a team. We don’t look at probably the goalkeeper or the back four because defending starts from up there.
“So whatever we do here, we do it collectively. In previous years we had even defenders scoring goals, midfielders scoring goals and we are saying scoring is not only a preserve of the attackers. Anyone in the team can score.
“That’s the other element we are trying to infuse into the players that it’s not only the responsibility of the last line attack.
So collectively I am sure we will be able to come up with positive results as we go forward,” said Mutasa.
However, their chief striker Rodreck Mutuma was under the scrutiny of the medical team after he limped off during the last match with a swollen ankle.
Mutasa said DeMbare are still assessing Chris Samakwere and Darryl Nyandoro who have resumed training with the team in the hope of landing contracts to beef-up the Harare giants.
But as they prepare to leave tomorrow for Bulawayo, Mutasa said they will not take Tsholotsho lightly.
Iziqholo Ze Zhwane managed to avoid defeat against the Harare giants in their debut season last year after playing a goalless draw at Rufaro and then forcing a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Barbourfields.
“In the PSL we no longer have easy teams because we have seen teams getting results.
When Tsholotsho came here last year they got a result against Dynamos.
“I would like to believe that the last two league games between Dynamos and Tsholotsho all ended in draws and it’s an indication that Tsholotsho is a strong side as well.
“So we are bracing ourselves up for a tough encounter with the realisation of wanting to get a positive result that will give us a sense of belief as a family,” said Mutasa.
