Mutare City To Appeal Docked Points
Mutare City Rovers say they will appeal against the Premier Soccer League’s decision to dock them of three points for using suspended star player Kudakwashe Gurure during the match against FC Platinum.
Mutare City Rovers argue that their player did not receive a yellow card in the match against Border Strikers which forms the basis for Gurure’s suspension.
Rovers coach Taku Shariwa said as a club, they were perplexed by the PSL decision because they don’t remember Gurure being booked in the match against Border Strikers.
“It’s still to sink into us what is really happening because he came in as a substitute in optional time of the match against Border Strikers. I don’t remember him getting booked in that match. There are a lot of avenues that we have to follow so that we get those points,” said Shariwa.
Gurure who has been one of the best individual performers this season said he was equally surprised just like his coach that he was booked in the match against Border Strikers.
“I don’t remember getting booked in that match. I came in at the end and I think the referee booked someone else not me,” said Gurure.
Team manager Lindon Kanyemba despite concurring with the player and coach, however admitted that there might have been bureaucracy bungling at the club in relaying suspension memo from PSL.
“We are going to appeal because there are a lot of grey areas on the game in question against Border Strikers. On the suspension letter from PSL maybe it was directed to our superiors but they also didn’t see it on time for the match,” said Kanyemba.
Rovers who are fighting against relegation were docked off three points for using suspended Gurure in the 1-1 draw against FC Platinum at Mandava stadium. The sanction leaves Mutare City on 17 points.
