Mujokoro, Mvala Banned 5 Years
Former footballer Farai Mujokoro has been banned five years from football related activities after he was found by the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee guilty of match fixing.
Mujokoro, who was now working as assistant coach at Bulawayo City was banished together with the club’s former kit manager Gift Mvala for trying to manipulate the Premiership newboys’ tie against Border Strikers three months ago.
The duo were charged under Order 31.2.2 of the PSL Rules and Regulations which states that it is an act of misconduct for any club or official who engages in dishonest tendencies so as to influence results of a match played under the auspices of the league.
According to the judgement released by PSL on Monday, Mujokoro and Mvala were each sentenced to five years ban from all football related activities after a full trial.
They were all ordered to pay the costs of the hearing by 30 November 2016. The club, however was exonerated as there was no evidence to link the institution to the offence.
“It is lucidly clear that Farai Mujokoro and Gift Mvala acted in common purpose to try to match fix the game thereby contravening the provisions of Order 31.2.2 of PSL Rules and Regulations.
“We thus find Farai Mujokoro and Gift Mvala guilty. Bulawayo City FC is found not guilty and acquitted. There is no evidence presented that links the club to the commission of the offence.
“The mere fact that the other accused are employed by the club and that the club would benefit from the offence is just but an unsupported allegation, which is not sufficient evidence to the commission of an offence,” read part of the judgement.
Mujokoro who was assistant coach to Philani Ncube, has since appeared in court over the matter. He was caught in a trap after he tried to bribe Border Strikers goalkeeper Talent Sande to concede goals in their match at Dulivhadzimo on August 3.
Bulawayo City won the match 1-0. Allegations were that Mujokoro called Sande enticing him with $300 bait to let in goals so that the visitors could win the game by a good margin to help them recover from a midseason slump.
However Sande alerted his treasurer at the club Godfrey Jera who set a trap for the former AmaZulu midfielder. Mujokoro and Mvala were subsequently arrested for the offence and appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate.
