Mufakose's Premiership Dream Up In Smoke

AFTER only a season in the Northern Region Division One League, Mufakose United –a team that is bidding to bring Premiership to the talent laden Harare suburb – is staggering amid reports that the franchise could be sold.

Mufakose United are owned by two youthful businessmen Norman Chabata and Job Chihwayi.

The duo is said to be seeking a partnership with funders to sustain the project.

The chairman of the club which is home to a host of former PSL players like former Caps United forward Nicholas Alifandika, is however confident the franchise won’t be sold.

“That for us is a scenario of last resort and we are hoping it won’t come to that,” Mufakose United chairman, Noah Jonasi said.

Mufakose United made their maiden appearance last season and gave a good account of themselves securing an eighth place finish with 46 points in 34 games.

But with harsh economic conditions affecting almost every Zimbabwean, Mufakose United haven’t been spared either with reports that the management is intending to dispose its First Division status.

Indications are that the Mufakose United management is sourcing for partners in a bid not to starve the community of entertaining First Division football.

“We have been looking at finding partners to work with since we feel so passionate about our community.

“The current environment is not conducive for business to thrive and in turn investment into soccer suffers. So ideally we would have loved a situation where we get a partner and cede some shares but continue with the community based club,” said Jonasi.
