Mubaiwa In, Through The Back Door

DYNAMOS president Kenny Mubaiwa has been appointed acting PSL boss to fill the vacuum created after the suspension of Highlanders’ Peter Dube in a move expected to further strain relation between top flight clubs and the football governing mother body.

Mubaiwa  lost to Dube in the PSL elections held last February, but Dube’s role was compromised after clashing with Zifa over the contentious relegation and promotion saga.

Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa made the announcement in a statement issued by the association’s communications manager Xolisani Gwesela.

“The ZIFA Executive Committee has also appointed Mr Kenny Mubaiwa as the Acting Chairperson of the Premier soccer league and he is authorised to represent Premier soccer league clubs as their Chief,” said Zifa in a statement.

Chiyangwa also used the same statement to affirm suspensions served on Caps United board chairman Lewis Uriri as well as the Highlanders duo of Dube and Ndumiso Gumede.

There is also no reprieve for Bulawayo City boss Jerry Sibanda and coach Philani Ncube who were suspended for their alleged involvement in an attempt to fix a match between City and relegated Border Strikers.

“Advocate Lewis Uriri remains suspended from all football activities after he rejected the association’s kind gesture to lift his suspension.

“Peter Dube, Ndumiso Gumede, Philani Ncube and Jerry Sibanda also remain suspended until the next ZIFA congress,” said Zifa in a statement.
