Mosimane Bemoans Billiat's Absence
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane bemoaned the absence of Zimbabwean international star player Khama Billiat after his side were held to a 0-0 at home in an ABSA Premiership match against George Chigova’s Polokwane City Tuesday night.
With Billiat put injured, Sundowns lacked the cutting edge and their predicament worsened when Bafana Bafana player SibusisoVilakazi also suffered a late in the first half.
That left rising star Percy Tau with a heavy load on his shoulders and the left footed forward missed three excellent chances.
“Hopefully Khama (Billiat) comes back soon because the load is heavy on Percy (Tau) and he shouldn’t be leading us," Mosimane told Kick Off.
“The senior players should be taking over and putting Percy on the side, but at this point in time that is not the case.”
Mosimane was at a loss to explain his side’s profligacy in front of goal, but says City parking the proverbial bus did not help their cause.
“What can you do, the infrastructure is there, the organisation is there, the play is there … but you must put the ball in the net. We just kept missing all the time. Open goals. It’s difficult when you don’t score,” the African Coach of the Year said.
“They [Polokwane] parked the bus, everybody behind the ball. The only thing we managed to do was get in behind the defence. But then we had the anxiety [in the box].
“You must remember that they [his players] are human beings, the expectation is there for them to win every time. We have won our last two games, but today we drew. It’s football.
“In front of the goal they don’t have those cold nerves because of the pressure and anxiety.
“But we are still in for three cups and we just won a cup [African Super Cup], so we just have to see how it goes.”
Sundowns are now four points behind leaders Bidvest Wits, but do have two games in hand. He admits the draw is disappointing, but points out that the teams around them at the top of the table have dropped points recently too.
“For us it is a set-back, but how do we know that other people will win also?” Mosimane says.
