Mosi-oa-tunya, Tsholotsho In Orap Zenzele Champions Cup Boys Final

IT will be a Matabeleland North affair in the boys when Mosi-oa-tunya take on Tsholotsho in the final of the Orap Zenzele Chevrolet Champions Cup Under-20 football tournament at Gifford High School on Saturday.

On the opening day of the tournament on Friday, Mosi-oa-tunya edged host school Gifford 1-0 in the semifinals while Tsholotsho defeated Phakamani 3-2 on penalties in a match which ended 1-1 in normal time. In the girls, Matabeleland South schools, Bulu and Mzimuni clash for honours in the final also scheduled for Saturday. Bulu were 2-0 victorious over Magwegwe in the semifinals while Mzimuni won 3-2 on penalties over Pashu in the other last four clash.

All the 14 teams which are participating in the tournament, eight for boys and six for girls were given playing uniforms named after a Chevrolet car. The schools are from Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Midlands and Matabeleland North.

No cash prizes are in store for the winners with the tournament sponsors putting more emphasis on the values being promoted by the organisers and less on monetary value. However, there are various trophies, for the overall winners and individual players.

Former Zimbabwe International Trade Fair board chairman Bekithemba Nkomo will be the guest of honour for Saturday's finals.

Players such as the Highlanders duo of Denzel Khumalo, Nkosana Ndlovu and Bantu Rovers captain Bukhosi Sibanda played in the tournament which started in 2014 during their school days.
