DYNAMOS and Highlanders go into the Sunday’s battle at Barbourfields for the bragging rights and three points but for DeMbare coach Lloyd Mutasa, it is much more than that.

The last 1-0 win over Yadah marked exactly 30 league matches of Mutasa’s era.

And the outlook is not impressive.

Whichever way you look at it, for the past decade, when PSL still had 16 teams, Mutasa would not have made it into the top two with the performance in the past 30 games.

The best possible position in the period under review would be third on the log in 2008.

The total of 48 points collected by the Dynamos coach in the past 30 league games would have given him position four last year when CAPS United were crowned champions with 63 points.

In 2015, 2014, 2012 and 2011, such a performance would have given DeMbare position five.

The same performance of 48 points in 30 games would have given the Glamour Boys, position four in 2006, 2007 and 2009.

In 2010 and 2013, such a performance would have given DeMbare 6th place finish.

As Dynamos face Highlanders at Barbourfields on Sunday, it marks exactly a year after Mutasa took over after one of many dramatic episodes in Hwange when Paulo Jorge Silva was in charge.

After that Hwange game, Silva completely lost the dressing room, clashing with all his assistant coaches and his captain.

It then paved way for a new era with the first game coming against FC Platinum, which Dynamos lost 1-0.

A lot of things has changed since then.

•Mutasa has started a building up exercise after giving the axe to some senior players and lost more key players to other teams.

•Ocean Mushure, who often gives Highlanders a torrid time, has since taken over as captain after the departure of Augustine Mbara.

•DeMbare have since lost their proud record over Highlanders in the past decade, with Bosso winning the two league matches back-to-back last year.

•Madcap Rodreck Mutuma joined Bosso after his contract at Dynamos was not renewed.  

Sunday’s battle however offers Mutasa a chance to show he is finally playing his own team and a new era beckons.
