Minister Warns Wayward Administrators
GOVERNMENT will, in the coming year, show no mercy to sports administrators who do not adhere to good corporate governance as it steps up efforts to provide an enabling environment for sportsmen to excel on the international scene.
The Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane said this at the unveiling of a $250 000 sponsorship package for the Warriors by NetOne before adding that it was important for sports bodies to be governed like corporate entities if the sports movement is to develop.
“We have declared 2017 the year of governance,” said the minister.
“We think that it is doable. We think that it is important for the development of the sports movement,” he said.
Administrative shortcomings have been noted as one of the major drawbacks for Zimbabwean sport and the Minister also took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to those that might choose not to adhere to government’s calls for good corporate governance.
“So in that regard you will see gnashing of teeth (from those that will choose not to comply),” he said.
