Mighty Warriors Through To AWCON Final Qualifying Round

Zimbabwe Women’s National football national, the Mighty Warriors team will face Zambia in the final qualifying round of the Africa Women Cup of Nations after they knocked out Namibia, following a 2-0 win at Rufaro stadium Sunday.

The Mighty Warriors won the first leg 2-0 in Namibia and progress on a 4-0 aggregate score line.

Namibia were first to settle as they piled pressure on Zimbabwe looking for an early away goal with Zenatha Coleman being a handful for the hosts. Chido Dzingirai denied the Namibian ace, Coleman from close range after 15 minutes.

Zimbabwe only got their first chance 24 minutes into the game when Emmaculate Msipa’s shot on the edge of the box went over from a cut back by Mavis Chirandu.

The Brave Gladiators of Namibia continued with their pressure but Zimbabwe could not buckle as Dzingirai again denied the dangerous Coleman on 40 minutes.

Coleman watched in agony as her curling shot on the stroke of half time went inches wide.

The Mighty Warriors came back for the second half with more determination but were rewarded after 74 minutes. Emmaculate Msipa coolly chest controlled a cross from Nobukhosi Ncube and picked her sport under challenge from two Namibian defenders to put Zimbabwe ahead.

Mavis Chirandu then sealed the win for Zimbabwe with four minutes to full time as she pounced on a cross from the right side to beat the Namibian goalkeeper from an acute angle.

The Mighty Warriors now progress to the final qualifying round on a 4-0 aggregate win after beating the Namibians 2-0 in their backyard.

Zimbabwe next play Zambia who knocked out Tanzania on away goals rule after the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate. The Zambians forced a 3-3 draw in Tanzania then were held 1-1 at home.

The Africa Women’s Cup of Nations will be held in Ghana from November 17- December 1, 2018.
