Mighty Warriors Striker Off To Iceland

The Mighty Warriors’ dance at the 2016 women’s AFCON finals in Cameroon continues to pay off as another Zimbabwean player Maud Mafuruse has been invited for trials at a top club in Iceland.

Mafuruse – a close relative of former Warriors skipper Willard Katsande – has been invited for a three-month trial stint at IBV Queens who are based in the capital city Reykjavik.

The 18-year-old Faith Drive striker, whose mother Constance Katsande is cousin to Willard Katsande, left Harare on Thursday and the move comes a few weeks after another Mighty Warriors striker Rutendo Makore had a trial stint in Egypt.

Just like Makore, Mafuruse was spotted at the 2016 women’s AFCON finals in Cameroon last November.

She also represented Zimbabwe during the 2016 African Union Region Five Youth Games in Angola where scout Mike Fola first spotted her playing.

Her  mother is over the moon while Faith Drive Queens director Nelia Musikavanhu says she is proud of Mafuruse’s achievements.

Mafuruse  started playing football at a young age and was inspired by her uncle, Willard, although her mum tried to discourage her and encourage her to focus on her education.

She made it into the Faith Drive Queens side while still at school and averages 30 goals a season, which she attributes to her speed and agility.

Her most memorable was against the Lady Pharaohs of Egypt in the Mighty Warriors colours.

She promised to do her best in the cold European country and inspire other girls to strive to play abroad as professionals and make the most of their careers.
