Mighty Warriors Out of AWCON
Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors have crushed out of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations following a 2-0 defeat by supercharged hosts, Cameroon in their final group A game.
Going into the game, the Mighty Warriors needed nothing short of victory whilst their opposition could afford resting key players as they qualified for the semis on top of the group but the Shadreck Mlauzi got off to a terrible start as they conceded a goal in the first minute of the game.
The Indomitable lionesses got their second five minutes into the second half as the Mighty Warriors backline was caught napping.
The Mighty Warriors’ journey in Group A was not easy after they drew their first game 0-0 with neighbours South Africa then succumbed to Egypt 1-0 before bowing out of the competition after getting another 2-0 loss to Cameroon.
Zimbabwe finish the tournament bottom of group A with just a point and with no goal scored.
Meanwhile, South Africa romped to a stunning 5-0 win over Egypt in their final Group A game of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations to march into the knockout phase in Cameroon.
Both Banyana and the Indomitable Lionesses will wait until Saturday to see who joins them in the next round with Nigeria, Ghana and Mali all still in contention.
