Mighty Warriors Challenging Task
The Mighty Warriors Friday match against Cameroon has an added twist as the hosts seek to revenge on that disappointing defeat in Harare which denied them a place at the 2016 Rio Olympics Games.
Cameroon, one of women’s football giants in Africa together with Nigeria, were this year denied a place by debutants Zimbabwe when they missed out on the away goals rule following a 2-2 draw on aggregate last year during Olympic qualifiers.
The Indomitable Lionesses had won the first leg 2-1 in Yaounde but that crucial away goal by Rudo Neshamba made the difference when Zimbabwe won 1-0 at Rufaro in October 2015.
Again, Neshamba was the heroine, when she scored an early important goal before she was injured and substituted.
Unfortunately, the team's chief striker will not be in action on Friday night as she has been sidelined with a chronic injury and is not part of the squad at the African Women Cup of Nations.
Mighty Warriors defender Danai "Sandura" Bhobho believes they can surprise the hosts when they meet at Ahmed Ahidjo on Friday.
"We have been down, disappointed with that Tuesday defeat against Egypt. But we have lifted ourselves. Today (Friday), we have to put 120 percent, win and maybe we will remain in the tournament.
"I feel l have been improving since l arrived here and l hope l will have another good game, “said Bhobho.
The centre back said there have been tough lessons for the team which returns to the biennial tournament after a 12-year absence.
Zimbabwe came into the tournament hoping to defeat Egypt, then scrounge for points from neighbors South Africa and the hosts Cameroon.
But it has been a different script and the Shadreck Mlauzi coached side are now looking for points against the team which has already progressed to the last four but backed by a full stadium will not be easy to break.
"I have learnt that there are no longer small teams or big teams. So today (Friday), we will play our normal game," said Bhobho.
