Mighty Warriors Begin AWC Preps
Zimbabwe Senior Women’s national team, the Mighty Warriors will on Tuesday next week play a friendly match against Egypt at Rufaro Stadium as part of the preparations for the Africa Women Cup of Nations scheduled for Cameroon in December.
Two foreign based midfielders Palesa Chipendo and Moddy Muwoni are expected to make their debut against the Egyptians while regulars Rudo Neshamba and Captain Felistas Muzongondi are out due to injury.
Chipendo is based in the United States of America while Muwoni plays for Doncaster Belles in England.
Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi said he is using the preparatory matches to widen his selection base.
“For the first time, we have included foreign based players to broaden our player base and we hope these players will bring a new dimension to our game since they have been exposed to better facilities,” said Mlauzi.
“We are delighted to have this important match against Egypt and I am sure it will help us to assess our players’ preparedness ahead of the AWC.”
Mlauzi however retained the bulk of the players who took part at the Olympics games in Rio last month.
ZIFA spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela told the association’s website that they are planning to have more preparatory matches for the Mighty Warriors before the team take part in the tournament which runs from 19 November to 3 December 2016.
