Medical Exam For Warriors

WARRIORS players are set for medicals before Kalisto Pasuwa can name his final 23-man squad.

Although the technical team pointed out before they left for Cote d’lvoire that it was a normal process, the main reason for the medicals will be to try and make sure they do not carry injured players to the tournament.

“It is a big problem that you carry some players to a tournament and they spend the whole tournament unable to play. We have experienced that in the past and that is one situation that we must avoid,” said a source.

The medicals are expected to cost ZIFA a substantial amount but there is nothing they can do to avoid them.

Some of the players underwent different tests at their clubs but the national team will have to re-do everything again to complement that.

“In the case of players that are injured, tests were done by their clubs and they released the players while indicating the players’ problems.

“But the national team will still have to do their own tests as part of preparations for the Gabon final.”

Last night the Warriors, made up mostly of local-based players, were to play Cote d’lvoire in Abidjan.

Foreign-based players led by skipper Willard Katsande were in the country for Christmas and they will be joined in camp by the local-based players who were in Cote d’lvoire.

Coach Kalisto Pasuwa is expected to name his final squad of 23 by January 3.
