Masakadza Joins The Big Five

HAMILTON Masakadza’s 31st career half century saw him reach and pass the 5000-run mark to be ranked among Zimbabwe’s all-time leading run scorers in One Day International cricket on Monday.

Masakadza’s match winning 73, which propelled Zimbabwe to a historical series win in Sri Lanka, got him to 5023 runs from 177 innings at an average of around 29.

His 16-year ODI career, and still going, also has five centuries with a career best of unbeaten 178 against Kenya at Harare Sports Club in 2009.

But Masakadza got to be among the top five all-time run scorers after the legendary Andy Flower (6786 runs in 208 innings), Grant Flower (6571 runs in 214 innings), Brendan Taylor (5258 runs in 166 innings) and Alistair Campbell with 5185 runs from 184 innings.

The 33-year-old is still in a position to surpass other players within the top five and finish his ODI career on a high.

Meanwhile, Masakadza was voted man of the series for the just ended series against Sri Lanka after scoring 258 runs at an average of 51.60 and a best of 111.
