Mapeza Praises Musona's Commitment
Zimbabwe national team coach Norman Mapeza’s decision to appoint Knowledge Musona skipper was influenced by the player’s commitment and discipline.
Belgium based Musona was appointed new Warriors captain Tuesday and replaces Kaizer Chiefs hard man Willard Katsande who was dropped from the squad to face Liberia in a 2019 Afcon qualifier at the National Sports on Sunday.
“I think Knowledge has shown massive commitment to the national team. He is a good role model to the upcoming stars.
“I think he has also shown that he is someone very disciplined,” said Mapeza.
Former Dynamos player Partson Jaure, who is now at Ngezi Platinum following a stint in South Africa, becomes the new vice captain, replacing Cuthbert Malajila.
Musona is surprised about this appointment, which was largely expected within the football fraternity.
“It is an honour to represent your country. It was rather a surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting it,” he said.
“But this is part of football,” he said.
The 26-year-old Musona plays for Belgian side KV Oostende who are fresh from qualifying for the Europa Cup.
“It is not like I will be leading alone. It is not an individual thing to lead the national team, but everyone is a leader and it is more about teamwork than anything else,” he said.
