Mapeza Names Squad For Liberia Clash

AS exclusively revealed by The Sunday Mail last weekend, the quartet of Willard Katsande, Cuthbert Malajila, Nyasha Mushekwi and Mathew Rusike was not included in Norman Mapeza’s 25-man provisional national squad announced at ZIFA offices Thursday morning.

The squad was announced by Warriors team manager Wellington Mupandare in the absence of Mapeza who is tied up at his club FC Platinum.

The quartet allegedly masterminded a player mutiny that saw the national team players snub a send off dinner organised by then Acting President Emerson Mnangagwa on the eve of departure for the Afcon finals in January.

There was also no place for injured Czech Republic based defender Costa Nhamoinesu and Elisha Muroiwa whose form has dipped terribly.

Gangly Black Rhinos defender Sydney Linyama and his teammate Jameson Mukombwe were named among the 11 defenders in a list that has the usual suspects Khama Billiat, Marvelous Nakamba, Danny Phiri and Knowledge Musona.

Mapeza also included Young Africans midfielder Thabani Kamusoko, Simon Shoko (FC Platinum), Ronald Chitiyo, and Highlanders’ sensational striker Prince Dube.

The Warriors will asemble in Harare on May 29 ahead of their 2019 Afcon qualifier against Liberia at the National Sports on June 11.
