Mapeza Named Warriors Interim Coach

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has been appointed the interim Warriors coach ahead of an international friendly match against Zambia on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed in a statement on Tuesday night that Mapeza will be in charge against the Chipolopolo.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association hereby confirms the appointment of Norman Mapeza as the interim head coach for the Zimbabwe Senior men’s team, the Warriors. Mapeza will take charge against Zambia in an international friendly on Sunday,” read the statement.

The Warriors have been without a coach following the non-renewal of Kalisto Pasuwa’s contract at the end of February after a group stage exit at the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Mapeza has since Pasuwa’s departure been speculated to be one of the favourites to land the job. The former Warriors captain was once in charge of the Warriors from 2011 up to 2012.
