Mapeza Given Two More Years
Norman Mapeza has been given two more years to prove his mettle at FC Platinum despite failing to land the title for the cash rich club in the last two seasons.
Mapeza’s contract previous contract, signed in August 2014 expired on December 31, 2016.
The new development means Mapeza will be in charge of Pure Platinum Play until December 31, 2018.
Mapeza was appointed head coach following the departure of Lloyd Mutasa, who left the club on August 7, 2014 following a less impressive showing in the first half of that season.
“I can confirm that we extended our coach's contract. He has been hard working and as the FC Platinum institution, we are really impressed with his work.
“It was unfortunate that we missed the championship last season but he had worked very hard. He however managed to achieve his set targets as per his contract.
“We hope next season FC Platinum will be amongst the championship contenders and we still dream that we are going to be the first club after St Paul’s Musami to win the championship title as a club from outside Harare and Bulawayo.
“We will be adding few names to strengthen our squad. I also want to thank our major sponsor, FC Platinum Holdings, the FC Platinum fans and sympathizers who stood by us in the just ended season.
“We still need the same support next season and I hope that the institution will win medals next season,” said George Mawere the club president.
FC Platinum have already added former Dynamos attacking midfielder Brett Amidu to their books and another DeMbare star Ocean Mushure is reportedly on his way to Zvishavane.
FC Platinum finished the 2016 season on second position with 61 points behind CAPS United who lifted the championship after amassing 63 points.
Mapeza’s team however had the best defence as they only conceded 15 goals.
Pure Platinum Play only lost three matches the whole season winning 17 and drawing 10.
The miners had three players on the Soccer Stars calendar namely Goalkeeper of the Year Petros Mhari, Winston Mhango and Walter Musona.
