Mapeza Finally Admits PSL Title Ambition

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has finally admitted that his team is pushing for the league title.

Mapeza has in the past refused to entertain talk about the championship but in an interview with the Star FM radio in the build up to Saturday’s clash against foes Chicken Inn, Mapeza admitted that the tie will be crucial as his side is pushing for the league title.

“It’s going to be a crucial game for both teams. We are pushing for the league title while they are also fighting for a top eight finish. It’s not going to be an easy game because they beat us 3-1 here last season and we went there and beat them 1-0,” said Mapeza.

The FC Platinum coach was also hoping that his team improves their performance at home where they have recorded more stalemates than away.

Platinum had to come from behind to force a 1-1 draw against Mutare City, drew 1-1 against Hwange in their last two home matches and their latest victory at home was against Bulawayo City last month.

“They are coming into this match bubbling with confidence after beating Tsholotsho in their last game and we also posted an important win in a difficult match against Triangle. Games are no longer easy in the second half as teams are leaving nothing to chance. We hope that the football gods will be on our side in this game,” he added.

FC Platinum edged Chicken Inn 1-0 in the previous encounter which was contentious. Chicken Inn were summoned to appear before a Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee for misconduct.

Their coach Rahman Gumbo, club Secretary Tavengwa Hara and striker Obadiah Tarumbwa were mentioned in referee Thomas Masaa’s report to have threatened him.
