Malajila’s Sundowns Future Uncertain
Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make a decision on the future of Cuthbert Malajila with sources indicating that the striker has attracted interest in the ABSA PSL.
Malajila returned to the Chloorkop-based club following his loan stint with Bidvest Wits where he enjoyed regular game time under Gavin Hunt scoring four goals in 25 ABSA Premiership appearances to play a crucial role in Wits' title-winning championship.
Sundowns recently indicated that the striker was not part of Head Coach Gavin Hunt’s plans for the new 2017/18 season which subsequently saw him return to the Brazilians.
However, indications are that Sundowns is set to make a decision on Malajila in the coming weeks as all five of the club’s foreign quota spots are currently filled.
Sundowns have Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento, Colombian Leonardo Castro, Algerian Fares Hachi and Ivorians, Soumahoro Bangaly and Yannick Zakri in their five foreign quota spots.
However, Malajila has been in South Africa for five years, which means that he could possibly apply for South African citizenship which if granted, will see him registered as a local player.
Now, it remains to be seen whether interested suitors will approach Sundowns for the player's services in the coming weeks, or whether Head Coach Pitso Mosimane will look to add him to his plans for the new 2017/18 season.
