Makwanya Out For Six Weeks

Sables and Old Hararians fly-half Tichafara Makwaya will be back on the field in a months' time and will miss his side’s Gold Cup final qualifier against ragging Old Georgians on Saturday afternoon after he was ruled out for six weeks due to an injury.

Makwaya lasted less than 10 minutes into his side’s clash against Old Georgians two weeks ago as an achillies tendon strain forced him out of the game.

“It is a rather rubbish feeling, I will be missing the final and I can’t do much to help my side. I am not the only one who is out because Cleopas will not be part of the side due to work commitments but Mashiri and Mwatsiye are out injured.

“This leaves us with a lot of work to do because the youngsters will have to step up  but it is also an opportunity for them to shine and show what they are capable of doing,” said Makwanya.

Coming at the back of a 25-17 win over Matabeleland Warriors in the qualifier semi-final, Makwanya feels they have to be more clinical on come match day, something he feels will win them the game.

“We played a very scrappy game in Bulawayo but the important thing is that we came back with a number of lessons, they *(Warriors) had a very solid front row but we managed to dominate them and that was a positive to us,” said the Sables three quarter.

The winner of Saturday’s playoff final will represent Zimbabwe in South Africa’s Gold Cup competition this year.
