Makonese's Move Hits Snag
Zvenyika Makonese's move to Swazi side Manzini Wanderers collapsed after a turn of events which saw the coach who had recommended him being sacked.
Makonese was reported to have joined Wanderers last month but the deal fell through after the coach who recommended him, compatriot Julius Chakupewa was sacked together with other three Zimbabwean players Frank Mukarati, Tawana Chikore and Tafadzwa Jaravani. However the big defender who helped Shabanie Mine win promotion back into the premiership gives a different dimension to the story.
“It’s not true that they sacked me along with Coach Julius Chakupewa and other Zimbabweans. Actually it’s me who refused because they had changed from our initial agreement and what they wanted to give me was peanuts," said Makonese.
“We had agreed on a house and car plus money as sign on fee but now they wanted to give me R5000 as sign own fee and R4000 as monthly salary which is very little and I refused. I am now back in Johannesburg with my family pondering next move," added Makonese.
