Makonese Makes Sensational Return To Shabanie Mine

Nomadic Zvenyika Makonese has made a sensational return to Shabanie Mine after a one year sabbatical from football in which he was now a bus conductor.

Makonese quit Shabanie Mine last year to take up a job as a conductor at a bus company which plied the Beitbridge –Gweru route but has had a change of heart and returned to the club that gave him fame.

Shabanie Mine official Munyaradzi Nyashanu confirmed that Makonese has joined the Central Soccer League division one side on a six months contract.

“Zvenyika has rejoined us on a six months contract. He brings in valuable experience o the team, “said Nyashanu.

Makonese who made a name at Shabanie Mine before joining Santos of South Africa and later Soweto giants Orlando Pirates was at one time an integral part of the Warriors, quoting attention of European clubs which includes French side Rennes.

The Mashava born defender was early this year convicted by a Beitbridge magistrate court of stealing a cellphone belonging to a passenger.

Makonese is expected to add experience to the Chinda Boys as they mount a challenge to return to the premiership. Shabanie Mine are just a point behind log leaders Blanket Mine. The Tendai Chikuni side has been short of experienced players with only midfielder Eria Phiri and capain Nyasha Mpofu the only players to have played at the highest level.
