Magorimbo Leads Out Of Contract Players To South Africa

Former Dynamos captain Thomas Magorimbo will captain the Zimbabwean team of players out of contract to a four nation tournament in South Africa scheduled for this weekend.  The team leaves Zimbabwe for South Africa on Thursday for the tournament which also includes hosts South Africa, Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two day event is designed to give players an opportunity to impress scouts who will throng the tournament. Zimbabwe Footballers Union president Desmond Maringwa said he was hoping that Zimbabwe players will be able to tie down some deals after the tournament.

“The team leaves for South Africa on Thursday and the tournament is there over the weekend. The idea is to give players out of contract a platform to showcase themselves. We are hopeful that some of the players will be able to have contracts after this tournament,” said Maringwa.

Philemon Mutyakureva who was assistant coach to Kalisto Pasuwa for three of the four trailblazing seasons in which they won the league title at Dynamos will be in charge of Team Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe team comprises of former Monomotapa goalkeeper Jonathan Zvaita, ex Gunners defender Byron Madzokere, Tongai Chiworeso formerly of Harare City.  Willard Kalongoda who was once at Harare City is also one of the experienced players in the team which has a cast of unheralded but promising players for the lower leagues.
