Linyama Impresses Stix

Sydney Linyama impressed Black Rhinos Coach Stanford ‘Stix’ Mutizwa in the 0-0 draw against Dynamos in a friendly match played at Gwanzura stadium.

Linyama who was offloaded by Dynamos in January alongside Stephen Alimenda, Rodrick Mutuma and Jacob Muzokomba has been on a club hunting sojourn which took him to CAPS United, Yadah and Triangle without success.

But a decent performance on Sunday against a team that discarded him might have won him a job if the comments by Mutizwa are anything to go by.

“I was really impressed by Linyama, he brought in some value into the team, and he is good in the air and has good timing of the ball. He has some experience which is good for the team since we want to safeguard our place in the premiership,” said Mutizwa.

Linyama was joined by another former Dynamos player, Benjamin Marere in the Black Rhinos line up which retained the core of the team that was relegated in 2014.

Roy Mwenga and Farai Banda from Buffaloes are some of the new faces at the army side which has retained the likes of Hebert Rusawo, Wilson Chakanyuka, Martin Mine, Lot Chuwunga and Jameson Mukombwe recalled from a loan spell at Chapungu.

The match didn’t provide much sparkle with both teams creating few goal scoring opportunities. Despite a spacey start, the tempo of the match slowed down with both teams resorting to physical play which saw Linyama being booked for a rough challenge on slippery Emmanuel Mandiranga.

Rusawo was also yellow carded for shoving Denver Mukamba to the ground in an off the ball incident.

Dynamos upped their game towards the end of the second half and were unlucky not to get a goal when Carlos Rusere hit the crossbar.  Rhinos didn’t threaten much in the second half with their only meaningful chance coming in the 55th minute when Marere hit the side netting.

Dynamos prospective recruit Quality ‘International’ Kangadze from Trojan Stars was given time towards the end of the match but did not have much feel of the ball. Former Buffaloes goalkeeper Blessing Mwandimutsira also featured for Dynamos
