Katsande's Chiefs Not Giving Up As Yet

WILLARD KATSANDE’S Kaizer Chiefs have fallen down the peck on the ABSA Premiership log table but coach Steve Komphela is refusing to accept that Khama Billiat’s Mamelodi Sundowns are firm favourites for the title.

Sundowns lead the table with 25 points from 12 matches and have stretched their lead to five points at the top.

They also still hold an advantage of two games in hand.

On the other hand Kaizer Chiefs are currently six points behind in third position, but Komphela insists Sundowns are not title favourites despite their run of three wins on the trot.

Chiefs are also home to former Highlanders and Chicken Inn defender Teenage Hadebe.

“If you asked the same question when they had gone through a patch where they were not winning, would you have said Sundowns are relegation candidates? No,” responded Komphela.

“The same should apply now in terms of looking at it in a positive light. There’s still a long way to go,” Komphela told Kick Off.

Amakhosi are set to host Ajax Cape Town at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in their final match of 2017, and the 50-year-old is optimistic of securing their first win in six home matches.

“We should close the year positively. We need to get a win as well and, if I remember well, we haven’t won at home for whatever reason,” he added.

“It’s important to go to Durban against a very good Ajax team, coached by a very good coach [Stanley Menzo], and try to win a match.”
