Katsande & Co Can Reclaim Chiefs Glory - Motaung
ZIMBABWE captain Willard Katsande’s team chairman Kaizer Motaung believes that Kaizer Chiefs are in a good position mount a credible title challenge for the 2017 Absa Premiership title.
Katsande is back in Zimbabwe where the Warriors are preparing for the AFCON finals and is a key player for Amakhosi where he is the vice captain.
The former Gunners midfielder is not the only Zimbabwean at the Glamour Boys who are also home to the former Chicken Inn duo of Mitchelle Katsvairo and Edmore Chirambadare.
Kaizer Chiefs currently lie fourth on the ABSA Premiership table ahead of the resumption of the league program on February 7 and Motaung is optimistic about his club’s title chances.
"We are in a good position this season to fight for the 2016/17 league title,” told the club’s official website.
“I wish to encourage the team to keep working hard as they showed their potential and will to win the last two games of the year.
"I think we stand a chance to reclaim the league honours, given our current position in the league.
“We are looking forward to the final stretch of the league marathon. The league is a marathon and we must not tire until the final whistle at the end of the season.”
Katsande has been influential for Chiefs and has so far played 14 times while his countrymen Katsvairo and Chirambadare who joined the side at the beginning of the 2016-17 season are yet to fully settle.
Chiefs finished 2016 on a high after they won back-to-back matches, against Polokwane City and Golden Arrows.
Prior to the upturn in their fortunes, pressure had been mounting on coach Steve Komphela after the side had experienced two extended winless streaks that had fans seemingly baying for the coach’s blood.
However, it appears the side from Naturena is now very much in the race for the title.
Amakhosi resume their campaign when they take on Free State Stars on February 7.
