Kaindu Puts Faith In Youngsters

How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu has turned to young unheralded players to resuscitate his campaign which has been faltered by a series of draws.

After losing the experienced duo of Charles Sibanda and Marshal Machazane to FC Platinum and Dynamos respectively during the July transfer window, Kaindu turned to lower divisions for replacements. The Zambian snapped promising striker Tinashe Makanda from Bulawayo division 2 side Zim Leopards, left attacking midfielder Kudakwashe Muronza, central striker Nqobile Ndlovu, Prince Phiri, Tamuna Matambanadzo and goalkeeper Beavan Diya son to former Dynamos goalkeepers’ coach Tichaona. Milton Ncube offloaded by South African premiership side Ajax Cape Town, is the only big name player signed by Kaindu during the transfer window.

“We needed to inject new blood into the team and start building the team around them. These youngsters are the future of the team because they have shown great value since their coming in,” said Kaindu.

The How Mine coach says the 1-0 win over Harare City at the weekend brings back the confidence in the team after a series of draws.

“The win came at an opportune time for us when we are transforming the team bringing in the young players. It gives them confidence going forward. The good thing with this three point system is that once we get consistency we will be high up there.”

Despite having a number of experienced players, among them Pasca Manhanga, Praise Tonha, Makundika Sakala, Kuda Musharu, Benard Donovan, Victor Kamhuka and Tapuwa Khumbuyani, How Mine have struggled for consistency this season. The gold miners who are now on position eight with 24 points, three behind fourth placed Dynamos have the highest number of draws than any other team, having drawn nine times.
