Joy For Zim Football Stars in South Africa and Tanzania

CUTHBERT MALAJILA’S  Bidvest Wits were crowned 2016/17 South African Absa Premiership champions after carving out a 2-0 win over George Chigova’s Polokwane City at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Students’ win which pushed them to 60 points, coupled with nearest challengers Mamelodi Sundowns’ shock 2-2 draw to Maritzburg United, means Gavin Hunt’s men have mathematically secured the title heading into the final round of league fixtures at the end of May.

Khama Billiat's Sundowns are second with 56 points.

Malajila, who should be reverting to his club Sundowns next season, did not make the final 18 for Wednesday’s historical win.

Wits got off to a flying start and stormed into the lead after just four minutes following a slick passing move which ended with James Keene producing a fantastic diving header to direct the ball past Chigova.

Daine Klate - who now has six PSL league winners’ medals - powered home the second for Malajila’s team.

"Hard work pays .My last 7yrs wer like this???????????????8 trophies, 4lig titles, nedbank cup,Telkom cup,Mtn cup and mbada diamonds cup," Malajila posted on Facebook.

There was also joy in Tanzania for the Zimbabwean duo of Thabani “Scara” Kamusoko and Donald “Dombo” Ngoma who picked up their second consecutive Ligi Kuu Bara championship with Young Africans.

Kamusoko also took to Facebook to celebrate his moment.

We have done it...we are champions again.thank you lord for what you have done for us...and also have made history for myself as a player by winning 2
