Jamie Vardy Scores First Goal In 15 Games, Does The Mannequin
What a difference a goal makes. The rags to riches story Jamie Vardy lived off last season was starting to wear thin.
That was until the 48th minute in England's friendly against Spain at Wembley when he powerfully headed past Pepe Reina following a sumptuous cross from captain Jordan Henderson.
It marked his first goal for either club or country in 15 games and he wasn't going to resist the temptation to celebrate ending his goal scoring drought.
As he sprinted away to the corner, he stopped, waited for England team-mate Raheem Sterling, and they both did the mannequin challenge.
They were quickly joined by other team-mates to create the perfect image of fans in the background celebrating while the players stood still.
After the match, Vardy admitted the celebration had been prearranged by the England players.
“We had a little idea and I just thought it was the perfect timing to get it started and luckily everyone followed,' he said.
Vardy's goal was not enough to prevent England stumbling to a 2-2 draw against Spain, after Iago Aspas and Isco hauled the visitors back level in the dying minutes.
However, the Foxes striker admitted he was relieved to have ended his goal drought, despite the final result.
'It's finally over so let's hope there's more to come now,' he said.
Unfortunately for Vardy and his team-mates they weren't to have the last laugh at Wembley on Tuesday.
The Spanish players, having seen Vardy's antics, decided to give the mannequin challenge a go themselves.
The footage, posted on Twitter, shows a number of the players and staff in the away dressing room.
Thiago Alcantara and Vitolo were both filmed as doctors mid-way into the video as they treated Marc Barta.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Spanish squad took up positions around the dressing room while Nacho posed next to a sign saying 'Viva Espana' after the draw on Tuesday.
