Infantino Talks Up African Soccer Development


FIFA president Gianni Infantino reiterated his desire to develop African football on Friday afternoon during his high profile visit to Zimbabwe.

Infantino attended Philip Chiyangwa’s 58th birthday bash held at Harare’s International Conference Centre in Harare on Thursday night before addressing local media on Friday morning at Ministry of Sport and Recreation offices,

He told reporters that he was looking a football development in Africa in general.

The Italian lawyer has been championing changes that benefit the African continent since his election to office in February last year.

Infantino targets to have  48-team World Cup in 2026, a move that could see Africa’s slots at the global football jamboree doubling  from five to 10.

“I was here (in Harare) at the invitation of Chiyangwa to look at the football development in the country.

“I am looking at football development in Africa in general,” Infantino told media in Harare.
