
HowMine Surrenders Franchise
Howmine Fc will not be taking part in the 2018 Premier Soccer League Season (PSL). The Metalon Gold backed team has written to the PSL advising them that they will not be able to play this season.
Harare City who were relegated from the Castle Lager PSL season at the end of 2017 are rumoured to be the front runners to take up the franchise.
The Bulawayo based team had an indifferent 2017 season where they finished eighth on the 18 team log after being hit by financial challenges that saw players striking over outstanding salaries, bonuses and signing-on fees forcing some senior players to look for greener pastures.
Defender Praise Tonha and goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya signed for CAPS United while another goalkeeper Donovan Bernard, defender Nelson Tachi and midfielder Thembani Masuku- all joined new Eastern Region Division One side Manica Diamonds. The pair of defender Kudzi Chideu and winger Toto Banda went across town to join Chicken Inn with midfielder Adolf Muganyi also trying his luck with the Game Cocks, while defender Frank Makarati signed for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Midfielder Pasca Manhanga trekked back to Triangle while former head coach Kelvin Kaindu, refused to sign a new contract preferring instead to return to his native country, Zambia where he has since been hired as head coach of Power Dynamos.
Former national team and Highlanders’ defender Bekithemba Ndlovu had been given the responsibility coaching the team in 2018.
Ndlovu, who is also the national Under-20 coach, has been working with the club’s development coaches to assemble a decent squad.
The miners had also added former Hwange and CAPS United goalkeeper Witness Munkuli to their technical team, as their goalkeepers’ trainer.
