How Mine End Season On High
How Mine ended the Castle Lager PSL season on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Bulawayo City at Barbourfields on Friday.
In a game played in wet conditions, Tsepo Rantokoane got the goal in the 57th minute with a tap-in after Bulawayo City failed to clear a corner.
There were two poor calls in the first half, as How Mine were denied a clear penalty by referee Nkosana Nduna, when Ranktokoane was brought down.
Bulawayo City striker Mkokheli Dube then had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside.
Despite the defeat, newcomers Bulawayo City will end the season above the more experienced How Mine.
Although How Mine have underachieved for a third season in a row, coach Kelvin Kaindu feels that there could be better times ahead in 2017.
“I'm happy that the players are getting the philosophy,” said Kaindu. “The understanding was there today – the way we knocked the ball around, moved forward and created chances.
“It will be easy for me to start next season, this is a picture of how I want to play.”
Kaindu is not sure whether the club's senior players will still feature in 2017, having previously blamed them for not giving enough to the team.
“I still need to manage the attitude of some senior players, but it's hard to make decisions now because I'm happy with the last five games.
“I'll talk to the management about signing one or two or three players.”
Although Bulawayo City could not end the season with a win, they have surpassed expectations with a good debut season, particularly with the challenge of coaches Philani Ncube and Farai Mujokoro both being suspended in a match-fixing episode.
