High Riding Ndiraya Keeps It Cool
Tonderai Ndiraya might be well on course to achieve a top four target set for his Ngezi Platinum Stars at the beginning of the this term but the former Dynamos gaffer is not getting carried away.
The Mhondoro based team currently tops the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log standings with 16 points and a point above Sunday Chidzambwa’s ZPC Kariba.
Ngezi Platinum Stars returned to the summit last Sunday after a 1-0 victory over struggling Harare City at Morris Depot.
Ngezi and ZPC Kariba clash in a potential thriller at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro on Saturday.
“On Saturday, we will have another strong team, ZPC Kariba coming to our home ground. We want to be consistent at the top considering that we have won two consecutive matches.
“It is not easy but we will try to manage,” says Ndiraya.
“The league is a marathon. It’s been good for us and it’s an achievement to be at the top. But we are not thinking about the log standings or positions.
“We want to concentrate on picking as many points for now as we can.”
Black Rhinos continued with a fairytale return to the Premiership with a crucial 1-0 victory over Bulawayo City at Barbourfields last Saturday.
Rhinos keeper Herbert Rusawo scored from the spot to push Chauya Chipembere to third on the log standings.
Defending champions Caps United were inactive on the local front as they played a CAF Champions League group phase encounter against Zamalek last Friday night and remain eighth with nine points.
The Highlanders versus Dynamos match was abandoned in the first half due to crowd trouble with the teams deadlocked at 1-1.
Bosso fans questioned the legality of DeMbare’s Cameroonian striker Ntouba’s equalizer in the 39th minute because they believe he was in an offside when he fired past Ariel Sibanda.
Hwange played out a goalless draw at home against Triangle while there were no goals again at Maglas where Shabanie held visiting Chapungu.
Chapungu anchor the log with four points from a possible 24.
