Harrison Enters Race... Madzivanyika Officially Out
KALISTO Pasuwa is favourite to take over at Harare City as coach when they officially conduct interviews for a new coach on Tuesday but three other candidates have entered the race.
Although Harare City have not revealed the list of coaches in the running for the job, SportsZone can exclusively reveal that they will also interview Mark Harrison, Bongani Mafu and Philani Ncube.
“We will be conducting interviews for the position of coach starting tomorrow (Tuesday). That is all we can say for now,” said secretary general Mathew Marara.
This is the first time that the Sunshine Boys have confirmed that coach Mike Madzivanyika will be losing his job.
While Pasuwa is favourite to take over as revealed by The Sunday Mail, indications on the ground has been that he is reluctant to come back into the fray after the 2017 AFCON experience.
“He has been resting and he is not ready to comeback. We can confirm that a number of clubs have been in touch but we can’t give names,” said Pasuwa’s agent Gibson Mahachi on Monday afternoon.
By evening the situation had changed with indications that Pasuwa had agreed at least to meet the Harare City executive for an interview.
Mahachi could not be reached for a comment on the latest developments.
That there are doubts over an agreement between the two parties, is reason why the club had to come up with a shortlist of coaches to increase options.
“There is no guarantee that even if they interview Pasuwa, they will reach an agreement. And the challenge at the club is that they have made up their mind they need a new coach immediately.
“So if they do not agree with their first option, then they will select among the other three candidates,” said a source.
Interestingly, Pasuwa and former CAPS United coach Harrison also happens to be Dynamos’ long term targets at a time when things are not in place.
Although Dynamos have not been open about the whole situation, insiders say Mutasa will be fired if he loses against Harare City on Thursday.
Mutasa, credited with rebuilding DeMbare in 2011, is likely to be redeployed as development coach.
At Harare City, Madzivanyika is likely to be retained as one of the assistant coaches.
