Harare City In Emphatic Win
Harare City started the defence of their Chibuku Super Cup title with a resounding 4-0 win over Border Strikers at Rufaro stadium on Friday.
Jerry Chipangura put Harare City ahead in the first half before the Sunshine Boys opened floodgates in the second half adding three more goals.
Second half substitute Ronald Chitiyo who added the cutting edge that was lacking upfront for the Sunshine boys scored a beauty as he curled his shot from about 30 metres ten minutes after coming on for Dexter Mawere before William Manondo and Farai Madhanhanga also added their names to the score sheet.
Harare City coach Moses Chunga who had bemoaned his team’s display in the past matches was satisfied by his team’s performance.
“Today we played well, I am really happy with the team’s performance. We could have scored more goals but still those four goals were enough to see us through to the next round. The win gives confidence to the young players we are introducing into the team,” said Chunga.
The Sunshine Boys started the match brightly with knocking the ball around with aplomb with Manondo hitting the upright in the first ten minutes. The home side were gifted with a goal midway the first half when Border Strikers goalkeeper Talent Sande fumbled a cross from the right allowing an alert Chipangura to poke home from a close range. The visitors who were clueless in the final third had their own chances but lack of decision making was their downfall.
However striker Farai Mususunye came close on the stroke of halftime but his header hit the upright.
Border Strikers goalkeeper Talent Sande was substituted early in the second half after being beaten by a dipping header from Edwin Madhanhanga but his replacement Gilbert Chigwandaza could not stop Manondo from scoring the fourth.
