Good Times Roll at Caps United As Hodges Bounces Back
NEWLY crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Caps United are luring former chairman Andy Hodges back to the club that he led to two straight league titles between 2004 and 2005, as they seek to relive the glory years when they dominated the local football scene.
An accomplished businessman who is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the chairman at Makepekepe when the Green Machine ruled the domestic scene under coach Charles Mhlauri.
Hodges is expected back in the country early next year to assume the post of chairman effective January 1, according to communication released by Caps United.
The finance guru is expected to co-chair the Caps United board with current leader Lewis Uriri until December 31, 2020.
In a powerful board announced by Caps United chairman Lewis Uriri late Thursday, club president Farai Jere is back in the board to head the Finance, Business Development and Corporate Stakeholders portfolio.
“It is intended that from January 1 and a period of 3 years ending 31 December 2020, the Board will be co-chaired by Andrew Farayi Hodges and Lewis Uriri.
“Andy is expected to return to the Green Machine after just over a decade. The shareholders have and are engaging with Andy Hodges regarding his return to the club he led to the PSL championship just over a decade ago.
“We are optimistic that come January 1, 2017 Andy will be back at the Green Machine,” a statement released by Uriri stated.
Mordecai Sachikonye has been retained as the club’s vice chairman and will also double up as Board Member for Technical Affairs.
Club first vice president Nhamo Tutisani, who still owns a 25 percent stake in Caps United, will head the Marketing, Public Relations and Strategic Planning portfolio.
He will work with renowned marketer Hannah Wright, a former employee of English Championship football side Newcastle United.
Wright was the Marketing and Sales Executive for Newcastle United between 2007 and 2009.
