Golden Valley Pay The Price
EFFECTS of violence and hooliganism have caught up with Golden Valley who have lost their abandoned match to Mufakose United on a 3-0 scoreline in the Northern Region Soccer League.
The match day 20 fixture at Rimuka between the two sides got to be abandoned in the 88th minute after Golden Valley supporters protested against referee Yuda Mutavanga’s decision to award Mufakose United a penalty.
Golden Valley were leading 1-0.
It took police until 1850 hours at night to disperse the angry crowd using guns and teargas.
For this, the NRSL management wrapped Golden Valley for causing the abandonment of the game in accordance with the rules and regulations.
“A decision has been made that Golden Valley lost the game by 3-0 because they caused the abandonment of the match,” NRSL chairman Willard Manyengavana told Sportszone.
“According to our rules and regulations and those of FIFA as well, if you cause abandonment of a game you will lose that game 3-0 no matter what the scoreline was. If they had queries with the officials they should have raised it before the match.”
This is the second time that Golden Valley have been punished for the same offence caused by their supporters at the same venue.
In 2016 while hosting rivals Chegutu Pirates, Golden Valley were charged again after violence involving supporters erupted.
