God Is Faithful - Chigova

GEORGE CHIGOVA looks like he is Norman Mapeza’s clear choice for the Liberia tie on Sunday but the Polokwane City goalkeeper thinks otherwise.

The former Dynamos man is facing competition from local based keepers Petros Mhari of FC Platinum and Highlanders’ Ariel Sibanda ahead of the 2019 AFCON qualifier to be played at the National Sports.

Chigova is yet to play international football after a short term ban following his alleged involvement in the Limpopo gate match fixing scandal.

He is likely to make an emotional comeback to international football after a two-year absence.

Chigova, just like any other player, says he is preparing himself to start against Liberia although he does not expect to be given the nod on a silver platter.

“I am ready to take up the challenge of competing with the other guys. Being here doesn’t mean I am the first choice goalkeeper.

“I just have to work hard and prove myself in training,” Chigova added.

“We have to train hard and work hard together as one team.

“No one wants an easy ride; if you’ve got that position and someone’s on your toes then you got to push yourself even harder. I think that’s only natural, we definitely do that for each other.

“All I can do is play well and then hope the technical team chooses me. It's the same for everyone.

“I think I am an all-round goalkeeper but I know I can improve at everything

“I was only called when Edmore Sibanda was injured. I am here for national duty and you know it’s an honour being here,” he said.
