From Street Beggar To Coach, Mkandawire's Touching Story

A year after his life hit rock bottom forcing him to beg on the streets of South Africa former Zimbabwean defender David Mkandawire has acquired coaching qualifications and is eager to start afresh.

The former Maritzburg United and Amazulu defender’s story shocked the football fraternity last year but he has now acquired a SAFA D license thanks to a South African Football Players Union bursary.

Mkandawire hit hard times last year and was spotted begging on the streets around Kempton Park, but has since dusted himself and is grateful to those who helped him get back on his feet.

“Words are not enough to express myself and to thank everyone who supported me during difficult times,” Mkandawire told KickOff.com.

“I want to say thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart. I am now back on my feet. I am ready to get back to football. I have now acquired the SAFA D license and am ready to work anywhere. I am ready to work even for the big teams in the PSL, Pirates, and Chiefs.

“I just want to get back to the game I love so much. I have the passion, skill and qualifications and the only thing I need now is a chance.”
